The health and safety of workers are values which must be protected

The Acciai Speciali Terni Group takes extra care to prevent accidents and to improve the workplace conditions. On 9th April 2014 at the Prefecture of Terni we subscribed the third “Protocol for Planning Interventions on the matter of Safety at Work”, which highlights strengthening safety in the activities carried out by the Acciai Speciali Terni departments, through a rigid series of controls during the recruitment phase (technical, professional, administrative requirements) and during the work execution phases. The result of the Group’s commitment is reflected in a steady reduction in accidents during recent years.

HEALTH

Admiral Benedetto Brin intended to create a steel plant which would also focus on the health of the people and of the territory. Almost 150 years have passed since then, and our commitment has grown and is reflected by a network that now includes universities and medical centres of excellence. Prevention campaigns are only the “face” of a much deeper and structured work, which consists in constantly monitoring medical parameters and in-house initiatives to enhance the safety of an increasingly healthy work environment. Since 1968, employees have been able to count on Integrative Health Services: a welfare system which has around 1,500 members, with a catchment area of more than 3,000 patients. It provides dental services, diagnostic imaging, specialist visits and physiotherapy services resulting in a reduction of the services provided by the ASL (Local health authorities)

CORPORATE MUTUAL INSURANCE FUND

Our company has been concerned about the health of its employees since its origins. The first information concerning the creation of institutions with a medical health purpose dates back to 1898 and tells us about the activities of the Sick Relief Fund, the first mutual aid institution which the company created. In 1968 the Corporate Mutual Insurance Fund was created to provide additional medical services and improvements to those provided by the National Health Service. Today, the clinics and offices of the Corporate Mutual Insurance Fund are located in Viale B. Brin, in the vicinity of the factory, in a building which represents a logistics and organisation health model in line with the standard levels of the health facilities, including as concerns the premises.

Services provided directly

The Corporate Mutual Insurance Fund provides the following services directly:

  • Dental Service: with seven professionals working there, in Italy it represents one of the very few forms of dental care provided by a company and the only one supplied by a medical health facility exclusively for employees and their families.
  • Specialist Services: covers all recurrent diseases.
  • Instrumental Diagnostics Service: equipped with the latest machinery and skilled professionals.

Services provided indirectly through external service refunds

In addition, the Corporate Mutual Insurance Fund provides indirect assistance, through refunds, of the following external services from its Health Service and according to expenditure ceilings set by the Regulations:

  • Specialist visits
  • Laboratory and radiological tests
  • Admissions and interventions in care homes
  • Dentistry
  • Lenses or contact lenses

The real engines of our company are the people whose expertise and desire to outdo themselves every day add extra value to everything we produce. We devote significant investments to protect the health and safety of the people and of the environment where they live and work.

Safety is a top priority for AST. Safety regulated by the strictest certifications and by strict controls during the recruitment phase (technical, professional requirements, administrative) and during the work execution phases. Safety here also means transparency through timely information on injury prevention, constant monitoring of the control procedures and improvement of the workplace conditions.

The most evident result of the commitment of Acciai Speciali Terni in the field of safety is represented by the constantly decreasing number of accidents during the last years, thanks to the continuous effort of all corporate structures in prevention activities and in implementing technical and organisational measures identified following a detailed analysis of accidents, incidents and dangerous events.
